Contract

Quarterback Joe Burrow signed a 5-year, $275 million ($219 million guaranteed) contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, thus becoming the highest-paid player in history.

Burrow will make an average of $55 million per year. The title of highest paid player in the league has changed ownership for the 4th time in the last month and a half - Herbert, then Jalen Hurts, then Lamar Jackson, and now Burrow have alternately received record contracts.

After being selected by the Cincinnati Bengals as their first overall draft pick, Burrow signed on with the team for a four-year rookie contract in July 2020, with the option to stay on for a fifth year in 2024.

Like most rookies in the NFL today, Joe was offered a smaller salary on his first contract. This allowed Cincinnati to save some money, taking into account that Joe came from one of the most impressive college football seasons ever and could have likely negotiated for a better deal if not for the NFL’s rookie salary cap. However, this doesn’t tell us that Burrow’s contract isn’t impressive as it stands.

Joe Burrow’s first quarterback’s contract with the Bengals is worth $36 million and is fully guaranteed. Most of his contract is made up of a shocking $23 million signing bonus, spread out throughout the deal at $5 million per year.

Besides his signing bonus, Joe also gets a base salary each year. His base salary was $610,000 with a cap of $6.5 million in 2020, $2.25 million in 2021, $3.9 million with a total cap of $9.8 million in 2022, and a potential base salary of 5.5 million dollars, and an $11.5 million cap on total payments in 2023.

All of this puts Burrow’s average NFL earnings at approximately $9 million per year.

Net Worth

According to sources, Burrow’s net worth is $1 million as of today. But with many years to come on his $36.1 million contract with the Bengals, one can easily speculate that Burrow’s net worth will only continue to increase.

Aside from his outstanding rookie salary in the NFL, Joe’s net worth is also pumped up by deals with famous brands like Nike, Bose, Fanatics, and Buffalo Wild Wings, among others. While the exact numbers of these endorsement deals are not public, they’re good enough for Burrow to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle.

According to Joe Burrow himself, he plans to use only the money he gets from his brand deals and put his NFL contract money into savings.
